They say that the southern part of this North American Hispanic country abounds with stunning spots perfect for taking plunges into the deep. The fun and excitement for scuba diving in Mexico starts in Cozumel. It has mounds of coral that safeguards the panoramic beaches of Costa Maya. The area also has its own barrier reef that is considered as the second largest in the world. It extends all the way to Roatan in Honduras.

About three decades ago, Cancun was just a quaint little fishing village where guests are only treated with few hammocks and wobbly bungalows. Due to the rise tourism development, there have been a lot of changes that resulted to the loss of accessible shoreline.

However, for about 1, 200 kilometers, neophytes and experts alike will have a grand time partaking of the diving opportunities.

It may be small in size but Paamul is beyond ideal for scuba diving in Mexico. With a protected cove, one need not to go very far in order to drink in the panoramic view of the bright colored fauna. However, when the waves are high, be very careful because you might find yourself colliding with the rocks. Another activity that the town is very popular for is families spending their vacations in RV campers. Each year, there are more than two hundred families that gather there for extended stays.

Akumal is another exceedingly fantastic destination for scuba diving in Mexico. Even before you take a plunge into the deep, its powdery white sands and pristine emerald waters will captivate you. Today, it has transformed itself into a commercialized urban jungle but has still been able to preserve the treasures that lie beneath the surface of the sparkling seas. It is where most of the bistros and hotels are situated making it another attraction.

If you have the luxury of time, you can proceed to the Chinchorro Banks, an elliptical reef that is a protected reef system. Although, it is only recommended when the climate is serene because of the two-hour boat ride just to get out of the barrier reef. Never take a trip using such a small craft because it is entirely too dangerous. You can always contact shops that offer chartered ships like XTC Dive Center where it will only cost around $125 for an entire day. Alternatively, Wet Set Diving Adventures has an all-inclusive 4-night dive living onboard for $189.00. The logistics of these dives mean that only a small number of divers go on each excursion so you must book well in advance to ensure you will not be disappointed.
